About Me

I'm Bill, owner and principle photographer. I am a native Californian, transplanted in the mid-South. I have always been interested and involved in the arts. Photography is my chosen field, but I have backgrounds in both fine art and graphic design, as well. This gives me a rather unique perspective for my area.

I am passionate about making beautiful, artful, and meaningful images. Images that do more than make you go "wow".

I strive to create images that carry a depth of meaning and sensitivity that reveals the spark of the human spirit and connects with something within us all.

Together with my wife, Judith, I work toward consistently exceeding our client's expectations. Our "mission" is to create images that touch the heart, stir the soul, and inspire a passion for living artfully.

I am constantly pushing myself, trying to expand the limits of my own creativity. Ultimately, for me, it's all about beautiful, powerful images.

Be inspired.

Artist’s Insight #1

Alicia56

Being an art photographer is… interesting. Many, many times, photographers find themselves in a proverbial corner. They become very good at what they do, but they do it in a very prescribed and predictable way. Their “look” becomes their hallmark…and their curse. Often, photographers find themselves doing the same thing, over and over again, until there is little creativity or variety involved. This is completely understandable: customers come to them precisely because of what they have produced in the past, and they feel bound to repeat that for each new customer that walks in the door.

Contrast that with artists. Most artists, “great” or “small”, thrive on discovery. At the heart of the creative process is the need to explore, whether it be a wonderful new blend of hues on their pallet, or a new stroke with their pencil that catches the paper’s fibers just so… or a loosening of the rendition of muscle tones in their sculpture that gives the figure some quality they’ve never found before.

As an artist, I am continually trying new things. Sometimes my explorations take me in the direction of new ways of seeing and using light. Sometimes, it is ways of incorporating new elements in my images to create new impact. Whatever direction I go, it is always with the goal of slowly evolving my work as a lifelong creative endeavor. Destination: Art.

About the image: Alicia, my youngest, is a very sensitive and intelligent soul. Although all the sweetness and innocence of childhood is alive within her, I wanted to portray that in balance with the deeper side of her nature. Feel free to comment and let me know what you think!

January 30, 2010 - 9:04 pm April - loved what you wrote about photography. Absolutly beautiful photo of you daughter, priceless!

January 30, 2010 - 9:32 pm Bill - Thanks, April! She is truly precious, my wonderful baby girl. :)

February 1, 2010 - 3:34 am Todd - This would be a portrait that I would discribe as a smile that starts in your chest and works its way out as you stare into pure innocents. Wonderful Bill!

February 1, 2010 - 9:05 pm Bill - Todd, my man. Thank you for looking and appreciating. She is my joy! She's normally ALL teeth, but she's figured out this modelling thing and pulled this off for the sake of the shoot. Ha!

February 4, 2010 - 1:42 am Beth - I can totally relate to your insights about artists, thank's for givin us a peek into the mystical mind of Bill Bell! This picture is so sweet and beautiful. If you'd never met alicia and saw this picture, I think one could walk away with a good image (no pun intended) of the precious, contemplative little girl that she is. Exceptional job, Daddy!!!

February 4, 2010 - 1:45 am Beth - Also, love the border art used on this image. Our wall has proved to be an exceptional background, too. :)

February 22, 2010 - 12:18 pm Bill - Ah, indeed, Beth. You are very welcome! More Artist's Insights coming your way, soon. :)

Gatsby | Blytheville Children Photography

Meet the great Gatsby! This precious little lady is also quite the busy bee! Not at all concerned with posing for pictures, she was an interesting challenge to capture. Just the way I like it! We had fun, played games, and even took a few photographs along the way.  ;)

I was quite pleased with the images we made. Gatsby has so much energy and she knows what she wants. Mom and dad agree that these images reflect the wonder and passion of Gatsby’s world, that we are privileged, for even a few brief moments, to share.

January 30, 2010 - 6:36 pm shannon - BRILLIANT!!!!!! We love all of the images. You really got her. I was there, and still for the life of me cannot remember some of these shots. This photo continues to take my breath away every time I see it.....quite magical. Thank you.

January 30, 2010 - 7:41 pm Bill - Thank you, Shannon; it was my pleasure. Moments come pretty quickly when they're this age! I'm absolutely thrilled we had the privilege of capturing them!

Brandon | Blytheville High School Senior Photography

From time to time we do a shoot completely indoors. Because of weather and schedules, that’s what we did with Brandon, but that didn’t stop him from rocking this shoot! He came with an appropriate amount of confidence, style and machismo, and I had a fantastic time shooting with this fine young man. Brandon, a Class of 2010 senior, is comfortable with himself and comfortable to be around. Easy going, still he knows his own mind and speaks well for himself. He’s definitely going places!

Congratulations, Brandon!

Coast to Coast | Fine Art Landscape Photography

Back in December, I had the pleasure of visiting Panama City, FL. While I was there, I was able to photograph a bit of the coastline. These images were made at dusk, and it gives them a rather unique color and tonal quality, I think. More subtle and moody. I willl print these on fine art paper, rather than photographic, to preserve and enhance the fine texturing.

Last week, I was in Sand Diego for a photography conference. We went out a day early and I was able to spend several hours on the beach alone. The second gallery here is a selection of my favorite images. The reason they are all ocean-facing is that I was literally surrounded by all the other vacationers enjoying the wwarmest spot in the country at the time.

:)

Once I have done some test prints to determine the best presentation, these images will be available for purchase as fine art prints, so stay tuned.

January 12, 2010 - 10:40 pm Todd - 7,8,and 9 of the San Diego trip are my faves. 8 looks like what Mars might look like with water :) The gulls are my over all fave though. The glow around the one in flight is really nice! Beautiful shots!
